Gears of War 2 Achievements and More
Written by Stryker
The November 7 release date of Gears of War 2 is steadily approaching and that means that the hype train is steadily starting to pick up steam. As with every massive holiday release, Gears 2 has some serious expectations to live up to. The first game has sold more than five million copies and with Epic's Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski throwing around the phrase "bigger, better, more" at every turn, gamers the world over are expecting a lot from the second entry.

Luckily it seems that Microsoft's biggest game of the year is poised to deliver. While there's little doubt that you'll be blown away by the single-player and multiplayer trimmings, Gears 2 isn't forgetting about the details. Linked Achievements were first announced at Comic-Con but now we've got the skinny on all three of the newly created rewards. Here's what to expect:

  • Complete Act 1 in Gears of War: Unlock Anthony Carmine multiplayer skin in Gears of War 2.
  • Find 10 COG tags in Gears of War: Unlock Minh Young Kim multiplayer skin in Gears of War 2.
  • Defeat RAAM in Gears of War: Unlock RAAM multiplayer skin in Gears of War 2.

Cliff talks Gears 2's 'Seriously 2.0' achievement
    Written by Stryker
While at today's Canadian X08 event, our own Xav de Matos had a chance to chit-chat it up with Epic's Cliff Bleszinski (lucky turd) and learned something very, very interesting about Gears of War 2's achievements. Specifically, Cliff confirmed that Gears 2 will include an upgraded achievement based on Gears of War's original "Seriously" achievement. The freshly new "Seriously 2.0" achievement will require a whopping 100,000 kills to unlock. Yes, you read correctly, 100,000! But fear not, the achievement task isn't what you think, because "Seriously 2.0"'s 100,000 kills come from both single and co-op campaign gaming as well as all multiplayer modes including Horde.  We say, bring on the Locust and give us our second helping of Seriously Gamerscore. The Seriously 2.0 achievement's 100,000 kills are taken from EVERY game mode spread across the entire game. Meaning that every kill in campaign single or co-op, ranked or social multiplayer matches and even Horde games count towards the 100,000 kill finish line. Also, there will also be an achievement tracker notification that will randomly pop-up and update you on your Seriously 2.0 progress.

Gears 2 DLC to ship 'soon' after game release
    Written by Stryker
In a recent X08 interview with Cliff Bleszinski, our Joystiq compadres learned some information regarding Gears of War 2's planned downloadable content. Most importantly, that it's currently in the works and will ship "very soon within' the [Gears of War 2] launch timeframe."

Mr. Bleszinski confirmed that the Gears 2 DLC will be "multiplayer map focused" and will make its release within the magical Gears 2 release window timeframe. As far as pricing goes, Epic isn't saying much, which is totally understandable seeing the controversy surrounding the original Gears DLC was probably a giant headache to deal with. Gears 2 DLC is being worked on and confirmed for release within the launch timeframe. Huzzah!

XBLA's Duke Nukem 3D passed certification, coming 'soon'
    Written by Stryker
Cigar-chomping testosterone factory foiling alien invasion news now, with word that the Duke Nukem game you've all been waiting for -- again -- may be arriving imminently. Speaking to Shacknews, 3D Realms' George Broussard has confirmed that the Xbox Live Arcade version of Duke Nukem 3D has defeated the development galaxy's most dreaded scourge, the Microsoft certification process.

"We officially passed final cert on our first try Friday, August 15th," said Broussard, also revealing that the game is due for release "soon." Though we've yet to see convincing evidence that 3D Realms employees are familiar with that last word's meaning, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a game they've at least managed to complete once before.

No price has been announced yet, but Broussard noted that it would be "about what you'd expect." Meanwhile, be sure to check out the list of Duke Nukem 3D's Xbox 360 Achievements, which reward players for tipping strippers and stepping in poo.

Bad news for Bad Company, it's delayed
    Written by Nick
EA and DICE sent out an email and have made it official. Their extremely explosive and over the top Battlefield: Bad Company has been bitten by the delay bug. Awww ...

The delay will push Bad Company back from its original release of "early 2008" to a a more general 2008 release. That means there will be no Bad Company next month or the month after, but there's a possibility it could hit retailers later this Spring, sometime in the Summer or even this Fall. We'll keep an eye out for an official release date when EA confirms one, but while we wait for that, we advise twiddling your thumbs. It'll not only make the time go by much quicker, but it will also prepare you for the thumb twiddling Olympics. Seriously.
